Vocabulary and Oracy
Explicit vocabulary instruction is integral to the teaching of each subject, none more than English. We know that a limited vocabulary can be a barrier to children's understanding and their ability to access a subject.
Children are exposed to demanding language through the literacy spine and the units they cover in all subjects.
Teachers adopt a high-quality pedagogy model for instructing key vocabulary and allowing pupils the opportunity to explore language more deeply.
We aim to further develop vocabulary and the teaching of oracy in 2026-27.
