RE and world views

intent

We recognise that our pupils come from a variety of religious and secular backgrounds and welcome this diversity.  However, we also recognise that our community is predominantly culturally Christian and we wish to broaden our pupils' world view.

Our Religious Education curriculum, following the local syllabus, seeks to be sensitive to the home background of all children. Through the study of Christianity and other major world faiths, children at Bosmere Primary School are challenged to think deeply about their own beliefs (religious or otherwise) and the beliefs of others.

Bosmere is a Community Primary School, and Religious Education is provided in line with the requirements of the relevant Education Acts.

implementation

Children are taught RE in a block each half term.  This allows for the full coverage of the curriculum, developing knowledge and skills, building on prior knowledge.  Teachers can complete the sequence of learning more effectively in a more focused period of time, leading to deeper understanding.

We use The Emmanuel Project for our planning, with the 5 Es at its core:  Engage, Enquire, Explore, Express, and Evaluate. These are then reflected in our class R.E. books and Emmanuel Project Quizzes.

Local links are encouraged in Religious Education, where meaningful.  Enrichment opportunities provide cultural capital. We have regular Open the Book assemblies with St. John the Baptist Church in Needham Market, for example.
