Geography
Intent
Geography gives us a sense of place, an understanding of the complexity of the world and our impact on it, and how natural processes affect both us and our planet; it's more than map work.
Along with other humanities, geography reveals stories about people and places, and how we interact with and depend upon one another and the Earth’s resources.
We want our children to learn that the world is our legacy, as are the people who live within it, and it should be valued and treasured. Early education about this will ensure we leave Earth better than we found it and we have empathy with those around the globe.
implementation
We use the CUSP geography curriculum.
CUSP Geography is built around the principles of cumulative knowledge focusing on spaces, places, scale, human and physical processes with an emphasis on how content is connected and relational knowledge acquired. An example of this is the identification of continents, such as Europe, and its relationship to the location of the UK.
CUSP Geography equips pupils to become ‘more expert’ with each study and grow an ever broadening and coherent mental model of the subject. This guards against superficial, disconnected and fragmented geographical knowledge.
