Severe Weather Plans

Mr Abbott has published the Severe Weather Plans for AY 25/26.
18th November 2025
Dear Parents/Carers,
Severe Weather Plans
Following today’s chillier weather, and as the cold months approach, I thought it a good time to update you on our plans in the event of severe weather and the potential for school closures.
In preparation, our site team will be laying salt to prevent slippery surfaces. Do please be cautious when walking on potential slippery paths, however, and encourage children to walk safely. If there is a thick covering of ice or dusting of snow, we may close the wooden gate entrance from Quinton Road to ensure visitors enter the site on well gritted paths.
Closing the school altogether is highly unlikely. I will always endeavour to open the school, even if it means running an alternative learning day. However, I may make the decision to open the school later (10am) in order to allow time for staff to safely reach school and provide a safe learning environment for the children.
Please assume the school is open as usual, if you do not receive communications from us. DO NOT contact the School Office please.
A school closure or delayed start time will be communicated in the following ways, by 730am:
a. Email to legal guardians via Arbor and / or School Story announcement on Class Dojo.
b. Closure only - Suffolk County Council Website: https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/children-families-and-learning/schools/school-closures/school-closures-in-suffolk
c. Closure only - Local radio stations announcement.
If we have bad weather through the day which may affect children or staff getting home safely, I may make the decision to close the school early. If this is the case, parents will receive an email or Class Dojo to ask them to make arrangements to collect their child early. Again, this is very unlikely but needs to be a consideration.
Please assume the school remains open as usual, if you do not receive communications from us.
Please DO NOT contact the School Office.
It is vital that we have up-to-date contact details on Arbor. Please do double check and update your contact and emergency contact details via the app.
Considering our climate of late, I doubt these measures will be necessary due to bad weather but I would apply the same measures in the event of a boiler failure, for example.
Of course, please always send children to school dressed ready for our changeable weather every day.
I hope you find this helpful and it hasn’t got you and the children too excited for a potential snow day!
Mr Abbott - Headteacher
